Welcome Members and Friends of Beth Shalom
Beth Shalom: Center for Jewish Life is excited to offer a spiritually and socially rich host of High Holiday programs. We are happy that you can join us. All High Holiday services are free to Beth Shalom members and their dependent children. Any full-time students, active members of the military or members of reciprocal congregations are welcome to participate in our High Holiday services for free as well.
Your financial contributions help support our year-round Jewish activities and programs. A customary donation of $200 per guest and/or visitor provides unlimited access to all of our High Holiday services. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Please complete and return this entire packet prior to September 3rd to reserve your place at our High Holiday dinners and ensure that your loved ones are included in our electronic Yizkor book and/or our greeting card. If you have any questions, require assistance or wish to receive additional copies of these forms to share with friends or family, please call our office at (209) 571-6060. It is also available on our website at cbsmodesto.org.
Reserved Seating for the Holidays
Do you have a favorite seat in the sanctuary? For a $54 donation, we will reserve the seat of your choice for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur services.
High Holiday Honors
Participating in services is an honor and a mitzvah. Please let us know what honor each member of your family is interested in having for this holiday season.
Community Rosh HaShanah Card
We will be sending out a beautiful Rosh HaShanah greeting card designed specifically for this new year. The card will be sent to every member of our congregation. For $36 add your family’s name so you can wish the entire congregation a happy and blessed new year.
Eating Together is a Mitzvah
Please join us for community holiday meals! We come together to socialize with snacks after most holiday and shabbat meals. These are hosted by members of our community and are free of charge. There are several holiday and shabbat complete dinners that require advance reservation and a fee to cover the cost of the meal. Please RSVP now for our Erev Rosh HaShanah Dinner on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:30 pm and our Sukkot Hebrew Fest on Friday, October 18th at 5:30 pm.
Sponsor an Oneg or Kiddush Lunch
Shabbats are more special when we can stay and schmooze after services. Participate in this meaningful and social mitzvah by hosting a Friday night oneg shabbat or Saturday kiddush lunch. This is a wonderful opportunity to honor a loved one for a birthday, yahrtzeit or other special occasion.
Yizkor: Remembrances
Beth Shalom is offering an electronic Yizkor (memorial) book honoring our departed loved ones. This will be displayed in our lobby and social hall throughout the High Holiday season. All names of members’ immediate families will be listed alphabetically without charge. Those wishing to have the names or photographs of loved ones displayed in a “Special Remembrance” section, may do so by filling out this form with a donation. For more information, call the Beth Shalom office at (209) 571-6060.
Refuah Shleima: We Pray for Healing
Every Shabbat we pray for those who need healing. At the start of the new year we clear the Refuah Shleima list from the previous year. Let us know who you’d like added on the attached form or contact the office at any time in the year.
Prepare for Sukkot
The High Holidays conclude with the joyful holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah. We celebrate the bounty of the world with four sacred species called the lulav and etrog, which are imported from Israel specifically for this holiday. Beth Shalom will be ordering lulavim and etrogim on September 15th. Please submit your order and payment with this High Holiday packet. The lulav and etrog sets will be available for pick up at Beth Shalom prior to Sukkot.
Beth Shalom’s Youth and Family Education

Kulanu takes place at Congregation Beth Shalom at 1705 Sherwood Ave. in Modesto on Sunday evenings, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Our rich program includes a broad spectrum of Jewish learning, including: Hebrew, Prayer, Tanach (Hebrew Bible), Dinner, Games, Leadership, Life Cycles, Holidays, Cooking, Community Service, Interreligious Friendships. Some of our field trips will meet earlier in the day on Sundays and are noted on the calendar. We also have a number of special shabbat and holiday programs.
