CBS IS GOING GREEN... And You Can Help

Tikkun Olam, or repairing the world, begins in our own homes.  Many of us feel that CBS is our second home.  Your staff at CBS is making a conscious effort in how we handle recyclable products by adding recycling containers in our main office, as well as other offices, to take care of the large amount of paper we use.  In addition, we are designating a large blue recycling barrel in the kitchen for glass, plastic, foil, and paper goods, which will be put in blue recycling bags before being put in the dumpster.

You can help too by making sure you use our recycle containers when at CBS.  Also, if you purchase disposable products for events held at CBS, please purchase cups and plates that can be recycled, rather than plastic or styrofoam.

You can also help by bringing your used printer cartridges to CBS for recycling--CBS can earn up to $4 each, depending on the type and condition.

We will continue to look for ways to improve our impact on our small corner of the world.  Please join us!

Religious School News

Dear Families,

Guess what?  Our Religious School year is at our half way mark!  Depending on how you view the glass, it is half over or still half full of Jewish learning!

We began the year full of energy and excitement about Tom Gough's prayer services, but we have gotten a little lazy about getting her a half hour early for Shacharit, the morning service.  By the time you receive this letter, we will only have five opportunities left this year for Sunday morning prayer.  Please take advantage for yourself and for your children of this great learning opportunity.  Shacharit is at 9:30 a.m. on February 10th & 20th, March 2nd & 16th, and April 13th.  Mark your calendars to learn how we should celebrate each new day in prayer!

We just successfully completed another community tree planting project in celebration of Tu B'Shevat.  I want to thank all of you who came, planted, and supported this rejuvenation at Muncy Park.  I truly appreciate the City of Modesto Forestry Division and the Greater Modesto Tree Foundation for our partnership in this worthy Tikkun Olam "repairing of the world" event.

Our 2008 Art Auction benefits your kids, too!  Our Religious School students have been working hard on some special art projects just for you, to be presented at the BIG art auction evening on Saturday, March 15.  In addition to fabulous, famous works of art, our CBS kids will be entering their masterpieces for a silent auction.  Please don't miss this evening of "To Life, To Art."

Lastly for this month, I want to bid a special and sad farewell to the Podolsky/Maddocks family.  I am especially sad to see them leave Modesto and our CBS family, but I know they will be quite happy so close to the beaches in Laguna.  Aurora, Nick, Aaron & Julie each hold a special place in my heart, so I expect that they will send me updates on their lives via email.  Our Religious School will be void a special sparkle and I will miss my Julie hugs each week.  I wish you all much mazel on your new home and please know you will all be truly missed by your Modesto Jewish family.

Shalom ouka

If you know of a congregant who is ill or in the hospital, please help us include them for calls, visits, and the speedy recovery list by letting the office staff know.

Please remember that hospitals are not permitted to share information with the public, including the synagogue.
